Historic Moments at Queen & King of the Court 2024 Finals in Doha: Three Kings and Two Queens on Top

The Queen & King of the Court 2024 Finals in Doha delivered unforgettable moments, breaking records and setting new milestones in the sport. For the first time in the event’s history, three Kings were crowned in the men’s division, while Lézana Placette and Sandra Ittlinger triumphed in the women’s competition. The event took place in Doha’s iconic Aspire Zone for the fourth time, and the competition lived up to all expectations.

Unfortunately, Stefan Boermans was forced to withdraw from the final due to a groin injury after two rounds, leaving his team’s future uncertain. But, in true Queen & King of the Court style, the regulations allowed for a substitute, and Steven van de Velde, who was casually playing elsewhere, stepped in to replace him. Van de Velde’s sharp performance helped propel Boermans and his teammate Yorick de Groot to an incredible victory. Together with van de Velde, they claimed the top spot in a surprising twist that saw them crowned as the first-ever trio of Kings. The reigning champions, Clemens Wickler and Nils Ehlers, came close but had to settle for silver. Meanwhile, France’s Calvin Aye and Rémi Bassereau secured bronze after a hard-fought battle.

On the women’s side, the final also showcased a remarkable partnership. Lézana Placette and Sandra Ittlinger, long-time friends who usually compete on opposite sides of the net, joined forces for the first time in Doha. Their teamwork proved unstoppable as they overcame tough competition from Germany’s Cinja Tillmann and Svenja Müller, as well as the Dutch duo Katja Stam and Wies Bekhuis. This win marked Ittlinger’s second Queen & King of the Court crown, having won in 2021 with Isabel Schneider. For Placette, this victory was especially sweet, as it was her first-ever title after earning multiple silver and bronze medals in previous years.
